SINGAPORE
Saltwaters/Freshwaters

With the right techniques and advice from the boat captain, you can expect to catch big grouper, sweetlip, golden snapper, sharks, barracuda etc. Try tenya, Madai and jigging. There is still hope fishing in Singapore waters.

BEYOND SINGAPORE
WATERS

Constantly looking out for Crocs, fishing in the Northern Territory of Australia can be hazardous. However, the fishing was so good, I quickly ignored those reptiles nearby. Hugh Barramundi, GTs and Queenies are in abundance near the river mouth and estuaries.

My recent expedition includes fishing for Chum Salmon in Hokkaido.

ICE FISHING
TROUT
SALMON

At Pyeongchang Trout Festival in South Korea, we tried our frozen hands on ice fishing. At -22ºC, it's no wonder our winter clothing were heavier than us!

Besides Trout, we landed some nice Salmon in Hokkaido Japan

PAY PONDs IN THAILAND
Local Ponds / Boon Mar /
IT Monster Lake

For once in our life, we pay peanuts for a few hours of fishing at the saltwater pond where the Thai anglers wet their lines. Lots of tug of war between us and the huge Barramundi. Expect to land 20 - 30 fish in just a few hours.

The biggest difference between local ponds and Boon Mar would be Boon Mar is hell of expensive. But the fish there would take almost any kind of lure.  Landing one can be a challenge though, and losing lures is a norm there.

Besides saltwater ponds, Thailand provides anglers with the option to fish freshwater as well. At

IT Monster Lake, as the name suggested, expect BIG FISH. Species such as Red Tail Catfish, Arapaima, Chao Phraya, Mekong Catfish, Pacu are in abundance. Most of these species are reel screechers.

PAY PONDS IN MALAYSIA
Damai/ Tanjong Fishing Village / Aceh Kelong

Johor Bahru, Malaysia boast a few saltwater pay ponds. These ponds attract both locals and Singaporeans from across the causeway. They have large species of Barramundi, Giant Grouper, Big GT readily to entice every angler.

Having tried fishing at  Damai and Tanjong Fishing Village, I felt they are pretty much like Thailand Pay Ponds. Fishes there are more aggressive in nature, and we have to book at least a session of 3 hours in advance to avoid disappointment.

For those who wish for more tranquility, visit kelongs like Aceh Kelong, or Ah Fatt at Penyabong, Johor Bahru which is about 3 hours drive from Singapore woodlands checkpoint.

SINGAPORE PAY POND
Pasir Ris D'Best Fishing Pond

D'Best fishing pond in Singapore is probably the largest pay pond in SE Asia. A variety of fish are released into the pond daily. And best all, you can bring home your catch for the day.

The price per session of 8 hours is still far cheaper than pay ponds in Thailand, however don't expect the same kind of bite rate. Fish in the pond includes, barramundi, Snapper, Mangrove Jack, Milk Fish, Golden Travelly and Groupers.

If you work around the pond with soft plastic, hard lure, live prawn or bait fish, your chance of a hookup is almost certain. But of course, we can have our

BAD DAYS!
